The RSPCA inspectorate and our Willow Farm animal centre have recently had to deal with a sad case of a large family of eight cats becoming homeless despite them being well-loved. Callie, Rollo, Tollie, Rani, Dax, Livvy, Malachi and Lovell became unwanted and homeless when their elderly owner passed away suddenly. With no immediate family, the signing-over and rehoming of these cats becomes delayed as we wait for the appointed executor to resolve the estate. All these lovely cats were well looked after (although Callie had cancer), and were obviously much loved house cats. All were understandably frightened, stressed and depressed when they came to us, and sadly Callie's condition deteriorated and she had to be put to sleep by the vet - this upset everyone at Willow Farm. The other seven cats are slowly starting to trust us and accept our TLC. This case and situation emphasizes the value of the RSPCA's Home For Life Scheme, a free service, giving pet owners peace of mind. It means the RSPCA will do all it can to find a new, loving home for a pet if the owner should die. Too many cats and dogs are left homeless through no fault of their own after their owners pass away. Now anyone can ensure they're properly looked after should anything happen - please see the RSPCA's Home For Life site for more details.
